A giant online repository of courses and certification, Coursera has classes offered by several educators and institutions of note while also offering credible certification. Coursera offers you a place to learn skills relevant and sought after in the industries of today. More than that, this is where you can explore subjects that call out to you. This is the place you want to go to if you want to take courses offered across the world from the comfort of your home, for either a fraction of the cost or completely free. Ka-ching.

BRILLIANT

Though you will need to pay for full access to Brilliant, it is worth every buck. Brilliant provides interactive and engaging lessons to teach Science subjects across various levels of education. Courses from basic math to advanced special relativity are available. The courses are designed by researchers from world-renowned institutes like MIT, Cal tech, Duke, as well as software giants like Google, and Microsoft.

OPENCULTURE

OpenCulture's considerable assets star courses offered by universities all over the globe. With over 1300 courses and over 1000 Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs), OpenCulture is going to take great care of you. Even bigwigs like Oxford, Stanford and Yale have their artillery on display in this educational counterpart to Smaug's hoard in the Lonely Mountain. That makes you Bilbo and Co. Safe travels.

ACADEMICEARTH

AcademicEarth has been in the business of open learning since 2009 and is allegedly the world' first collection of free university courses. It offers online courses from several universities like John Hopkins, Yale and Stanford, claiming to offer the best courses in each subject area. They also have resources and directories for online degrees.

FUTURELEARN

FutureLearn caters to budding students, hobbyists and professionals by offering courses from international universities over the internet across a wide array of disciplines. One can even seek online programs and degrees through FutureLearn. The resources here also include articles, discussions and quizzes constructed by experts and instructors.

TAKING TO CYBERSPACE

A number of colleges and universities have placed resources, selected materials and entire courses taken by seasoned faculty on dedicated websites online. You can find high-quality, potentially high-yield learning here. These outlets are excellent giants with fantastic shoulders to stand upon.

  1. Harvard Extension: Harvard Extension offers a number of courses you can take upon under its Extension School- be it for degree requirements, for certification or good, old open courses.

  2. Stanford Online: Stanford Online has over thirty fields you can pick courses from. AI, Humanities, Data Science, Management...the list goes on and on. 

  3. Open Yale Courses: Open Yale Courses offers a number of introductory courses recorded by Yale scholars in video, audio and transcript formats. However, no certification is offered by OYC.

  4. MIT OpenCourseWare: MIT OCW packs some serious firepower; it offers "virtually all" course content from MIT, featuring over 2400 courses.

  5. University of Massachusetts Boston OpenCourseWare: UMass' OCW is open to everyone, but sadly does not offer credits or certifications of any kind. 

ALISON

Hailing from Ireland, Alison has expert-driven courses laid out for anyone with internet access to sweep in and gorge themselves silly on. The whole lot of them are free. Alison is a platform for learning and skill development that sees itself as a catalyst for positive change through education for all.

OPEN LEARNING

SKILLSHARE 

Skillshare has a legion of courses up for grabs- courses on illustration, photography, design, writing, web development and so much more. It is a place for teachers, students and professionals to explore, find inspiration and grow. The online community platform offers new members a free two-month stint to get a feel of what Skillshare has to offer.

HACKERRANK

Are you interested in coding and solving problems? Do you have the urge to solve and try out new problems? If yes, then you have come to the right place. HackerRank is the place to sharpen your programming skills and to pick up a new language that you've been itching to get acquainted with. It is an interactive and user-friendly platform that has everything you need to get started. And whats more, it might just help you get hired!

While they are not necessarily focused on one particular field, National Geographic covers all sorts of relevant and intriguing topics, developments and questions through their works.

CURIOSITYSTREAM

Yes, it is a paid channel, and yes, it might initially feel like it is not worth the investment. But trust us it is a great resource to watch thousands of world class documentaries made by the best on science, history, and yeah even architecture and cooking. If you have the curiosity of cat, then this is the best place for you to feed it. 

CAVE OF PROGRAMMING

Cave of Programming is run by John Purcell, a former software developer who decided to make videos and courses on programming for everyone. He offers paid courses, both on his site and outlets like Udemy. He also has a YouTube channel with videos you can consult. His content covers stuff for both beginners and those with more experience.

GeeksforGeeks is a handy site for those who want solutions to a number of problems in topics like Data Structures, Programming and Algorithms. The site also helps you with a variety of exams, like the ISRO CS and GATE.

WOLFRAM ALPHA

Wolfram Alpha is backed by an obscene amount of data and a formidable armada of algorithm; the two come together to give a robust problem-solving entity. With data stores in a number of different of areas, Wolfram Alpha strives to provide usable solutions to your questions.

PUBMED

PubMed is an online directory devoted to helping seekers along in their search for biomedical and life science literature. An initiative from the US National Library for Medicine, the site holds over thirty million citations and abstracts to articles and papers, with many of them having links to the full resource.

LINKEDIN SLIDESHARE 

LinkedIn SlideShare is an excellent way to get to know a variety of topics better with the help of graphics and presentations created by people hailing from a staggering number of fields from all over the world. The platform enables the diffusion of information in a more visual platform, living up to the idea of less being more.

JSTOR DAILY

Making use of the material in JSTOR's hoard, JSTOR Daily is a free source of information which works to give us context to real-world developments using its data stores. Relevant resources are also provided with articles. You can sign up for their newsletter, sending you the choicest cuts of knowledge every Thursday!

G SUITE LEARNING CENTER

The G Suite Learning Center can help you find your way around a powerful piece of cloud computing tech called the G Suite. The G Suite is a bunch of cloud-based productivity apps that can be used as alternatives to Microsoft Office. The Learning Center will let you get the hang of things and hopefully propel you towards employing the full potential within this absolute gem from Google.

NEW WORLD ENCYCLOPEDIA

The New World Encyclopedia might not look like much, but it is a storehouse for disturbingly high volumes of information on an equally disturbingly high number of subjects. Go on, click on something that catches your ideas, and enjoy your ride down the rabbit hole.

BARTLEBY

Bartleby is a student help service from Barnes and Noble Education. Bartleby does a lot of things for you- it can provide solutions to questions, help you with your writing and more. It should be noted that many of Bartleby's services are paid.

CODE

Code.org is a site dedicated to ensuring everyone gets a shot at learning Computer Science, along with ample support. Code.org caters to students pursuing secondary education, and also helps users find learning beyond the 12th Grade level. Code.org is an excellent place to fall in love with programming, whether it is the first time or all over again. 

SCRATCH

From the testing sites of MIT comes Scratch. Think of it as a more interactive variant of Code.org. We like the sound of that.

FREE MUSIC ARCHIVE

Music goes great with learning, whether you are studying the music itself or need music to work to. The Free Music Archive, courtesy of the radio station WFMU, is a library of high-quality music, in MP3 format. It's free, it's legal, and it's delicious. Be sure to get yourself some of this goodness.

CAMBRIDGE ASSESSMENT INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION 

The Cambridge International site is a must-visit for those enrolled in or considering signing up for Cambridge programs. The information up for grabs covers various levels of education. It not only has an elaborate directory for the courses offered by the Cambridge system, but also provides updated syllabus listings, talks about the benefits of taking up the Cambridge path, and lists books for courses one can use in each course. The directory even tells you of books the endorsed by Cambridge and recommended, and other references that could come in handy.

DESMOS

A math aid in the form used by both teachers and students, with activities, useful tools  and even the possibility of feedback, Desmos is there to not just make your journey with Mathematics easier, but also enjoyable. Built with the dream of making math less like the monster under your bed, Desmos is a free tool not to miss out on.

XTREMEPAPERS

This handy repository holds more than just exam papers from various entrance tests from the past; it has selected news articles, tips and tricks to optimize your scoring and studying efficiency, a forum and more. Xtremepapers is here to take care of you.

PASTPAPERS

PastPapers claims to hold over 100,000 papers in its stores, spanning a variety of exams and boards. Its hoards include papers for A Levels, IGCSE and more. Be warned though; despite its allegedly vast offerings, a number of the site's components are in a state of disrepair.

GCE GUIDE

The GCE Guide is another online resource specializing in folks taking on A Levels, O Levels, AS Levels and the IGCSE Board of Education in their educational pursuits. Besides having a buffet of past years' papers for prospective users to pore over, they also offer resources like e-books to help learners along their way. They also have professional counsellors who can provide additional insights to those interested.
